בשבת האחרונה (פרשת ״אמור״), ביקרו בקהילה ראש-הישיבה, מנכ״ל הישיבה וכמה תלמידים מישיבת הסדר שמגדירה את עצמה כ-״ישיבת ההסדר החרדית הראשונה״. בעקבות זאת התחלתי לחשוב איך מגדירים חרדי? אולי התשובה הנכונה ביותר היא: עדיף לא לעסוק בהגדרות! אבל, מכיוון שהעומדים בראש הישיבה מגדירים עצמם כ״חרדים״ (ראה ״ישיבת ההסדר החרדית הראשונה״), אני משתמש באפשרות השניה (שנכונה כתשובה ראשונית לכל שאלה שמתחילה ב-״מה ההגדרה ל...?״ - ״...דתי״, ״...חילוני״, ״...ימני״, ״...שמאלני״ וכו׳) - למה ואיך הם מגדירים עצמם כחרדים? מבחינתי האישית, כשאני מנסה להבין מתי אני נכשל בתיוג של אדם/גוף/עמדה כחרדי, זה חרדי-כ״לא-ציוני״. איך אני מגדיר ״לא-ציוני״? על-כך, מחר - יום הזיכרון לחללי צה״ל. יהי זכרם ברוך, תהי נשמתם צרורה בצרור החיים. #עברית #הרבכרמיגרוס #מדינתישראל #thestateofisrael #philosophy

I notice(d) that I always use an external editor (Text Wrangler - TW) to actually write my posts. I then copy/paste into the Wix Blog Post Editor (WBPE) - and I wonder why? An immediate "suspicion" is would be that I feel the WBPE is too volatile - but I also don't save my work in TW... It can be that I trust the recovery of TW more than the that of WBPE. But I really feel the TW tool - while only a plain-text editor and nothing more - "simply works as published". Is this a pattern that is unique to me, or to other bloggers too? And if so, why? My reason - or a different reason? #blog

The idea stems from a discussion with GBN, on the meaning of the Product Guild. Wanting to help PMs improve their methodology, the idea is as follows: Identify a list of small product tasks (e.g. a Text+"Read More..." component, image alignment option within a text stream, image insertion within a text stream, recent colors, click-through, when to update the mobile flow etc.) Invite a group of PMs for a two hours offsite, to work on a solution and compare methodology. There's no right-or-wrong - it's about seeing how different people solve similar problems, learning from them - and hopefully teaching them too... How to make this happen? More in the next posts... I'd like this started by June. We'll see...

Finally, caught up with my 100-words-a-work-day project... This night saw a nice milestone with the blog project, when NSI completed a first POC (based on work by II and NSI) of multi-content blog posts. This is something we've all been waiting for sooooo long, and can now start to expect meeting our (self-imposed) May 30th deadline. Furthermore, if progress continues in this rate, then next Thursday (May 8th), I plan for us to post a reply/update to the relevant Answers thread, providing an update and asking people to register for closed-beta testing of the new feature... We'll see what happens... will keep you posted (no pun intended - but I couldn't avoid it.)

Monday saw the submission-to-AppStore of the new-and-improved Take-a-Note... I started the project late February, not sure where I'm going with it... and here it is. This version is a complete rewrite, which was motivated by a wish to adapt to iOS 7 - and numerous features cleanups and improvements. I'm quite happy with the result, and personally like it much better - and hope the my users will be more engaged (this maybe a good time to admit I have a very small number of active users... a sad fact that will maybe change with this version...)

This has been the worst Surmera Assetov 100 word-a-workday lapse... The past few days provided many excuses not to post, and here I am, Tuesday in progress - with missing posts for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. And yet, there were productive days. Sunday saw the launch the the Wix Mobile Native team first app, You Fresh Naturals, for iOS and Android. It was an exciting milestones, and the team is now feverishly working to complete 5 more stores-as-apps for Smokey Joes, Faerie Organics, Cacao TV, Farm to Fork and Cathy's Scraps - all of which should hopefully be launched by the third week of May.

* Don't Do as I Say. Do as I Do! Meaning, ignore my words. Follow my actions. I may not be practicing what I'm preaching, but I am doing the right thing. So I ask/implore to to do it too... Examples are harder to find, since this sounds counter-intuitive. But I'll give two justifications of the top of my head. Actions speak louder than Words... A picture is worth 1000 words. Your brain processes what you SEE me DO, faster than what your HEAR me SAY. So just ignore my words... (not to mention the fact we sometime "stumble for words", right? We sometimes just can't find the right word...) Lead by example... Example: Strive to be the best, like your mentor is. So what is the "correct" quote? Don't Do as I Do. Do as I Say! or is it: Don't Do as I Say. Do as I Do! I then realized that historically speaking, I don't "care" which is the correct quote. Both are good - they drive a different point. * Don't Do as I Do. Do as I Say! Meaning, don't look at me. Listen to me. I may be acting differently than the way I teach, and while I may have more-or-less valid reasons for doing so (creating a gap between my actions and my lessons), and while the best way to teach people how to act/behave is by behaving that way ourselves, the bottom line is this - I have some reason for not behaving in a specific way. I hope it's a valid reason - BUT I implore you to behave in a different way (e.g. not repeat my mistakes...) Easy example: Don't smoke (though you see the teacher smoking).
